Visit Italy: St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome

I am Catholic so it is no surprise that whenever I am in Rome, St. Peter’s Basilica (the headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church), is one of the first places I visit. I find it is quite peaceful, breathtaking and a great place to meditate and pray, despite the crowds. The building and its environs are one of Rome’s most famous tourist attractions so it is no surprise that entry into the building usually involves a wait of over hour in long queue which spans the breath of St. Peter’s Square.  Usually when I visit I tend to focus on the main building, however on my last trip, my sister Wokie and I challenged ourselves to climb to the top of St Peter’s dome (“cupola”). The experience was quite dizzying as I am scared of heights. However, I would say it was a great way to help me overcome my fears, while taking in the best views of Rome. The journey to the top also required us to climb a total of 551 steep steps (or you could take the elevator) which left my arms and legs feeling quite toned.

I knew I was going to be doing a lot of walking that day so I paired a loose white cotton top from Zara with a pair of light blue palazzo trousers, also from Zara. I purchased a white hat from one of the street vendors in Rome and accessorised with a necklace and glasses from Aldo.
