Visit Italy: St Peter’s Basilica, Rome

St Peter’s Basilica is unsurprisingly one of the most beautiful churches I have seen in my life. Located in Vatican City, the Renaissance masterpiece was designed principally by Donato Bramante, Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno and Gian Lorenzo Bernini. St. Peter’s is one of the largest churches in the world and regarded as one of the holiest Catholic shrines. Catholic tradition holds that the Basilica is the burial site of St. Peter and also the first Pope. For this reason, many Popes have been interred at St. Peter’s since the Early Christian period. For man Catholics and tourists, St. Peter’s Basilica is famous place of pilgrimage as the Pope presides at a number of liturgies throughout the year so you’re ever in Rome it is definitely popping by.
