 Tara Fela- Durotoye Part 1

King Women is an interview-based series by Kemi Adetiba, featuring the stories of powerful female leaders in a range of careers.  In part 2 of the series, Kemi Adetiba interviews Tara Fela-Durotoye.

Tara Fela-Durotoye is a Nigerian makeup artist and lawyer. She started House of Tara at the age of 20, from her living room, whilst an undergraduate at university back in 1998. A pioneer in the bridal makeup profession in Nigeria, she launched the first bridal directory in 1999, set up international standard makeup studios and established the first makeup school in Nigeria. She is the founder and CEO of House of Tara International and creator of the Tara Orekelewa Beauty range, Inspired Perfume and the H.I.P Beauty range. In 2013, Tara was nominated as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum and was also named one of Forbe’s ’20 Young Power African Women’. Her work has been profiled on several international platforms including New York Forum Africa (NYFA), France24,  Africa 24 by Reuters, Bloomberg and CNN’s African Voices, a weekly show that highlights Africa’s most engaging personalities, exploring the lives and passions of people who are shaping change in Africa. Today, Tara has over 3,000 beauty representatives spread across Nigeria and 14 stores.  I really enjoyed listening to Tara’s journey to success and I hope you do too.
